They may fit some few aluminum-framed bicycles, but they didn’t fit mine. Origin8, the maker should clearly specify that these are for steel-framed bikes only. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else filing their tensioners – It may affect the structural integrity of the product. Once the tensioner fits over the dropout, then I may (or may not) have sufficient length on the tensioner threads to use the product. I believe that I can modify the tensioners by filing the inside of the "slot" of the tensioner to provide more clearance. This makes these tensioners a poor fit (figuratively and literally) for aluminum-framed bikes. If, however, like me, you have an aluminum-framed bike, then you’re likely to find two specific flaws: The grooves in the back of the tensioners are not wide enough to fit around your dropout AND the bolts of the tensioners are not long enough to reach to the back of your dropout. Therefore, if you have a steel-framed bike, these should work perfectly. Also, since steel has higher tensile strength, there is less metal between the back of the axle-slot and the back of the dropout. If you have a steel-framed bicycle, then the rear dropouts are significantly narrower (side to side) than if you have an aluminum-framed bike.

I didn’t understand until my tensioners arrived. Those who liked the product liked it very well, but those who didn’t were profoundly negative. When I looked at the feedback prior to ordering these, I found it very contradictory.

Now you have a great product and the begining of an awesome tool collection. Just remember that Files only work in the push direction, so no back and forth like sand paper. It took 5 swipes to the top and bottom of the insert with a little rounding action as you push the file forward and voila, you have a rounded front end insert. When it comes to metal filing aluminum is like butter. The reason anyone even my 4 year old son can do this to the insert is the insert is aluminum. The medium to fine metal file is about at Home Depot or Lowes.

It might sound difficult but any person can do this. Grab your medium to fine metal file and file the front part of the insert round. However being a mechanical person this was an extremely easy fix. So when installing I could not get my axle in the forward most position. The Rockwerks tensioners have a near squared front insert. Almost all horizontal drop outs are rounded to fit the shape of the axle maximizing the distance you have for chain tightening.

Which in turn means that when installing the tensioner I have to have the axle in the full forward position. Meaning I have very little play in my chain. I run a 53 tooth crank gear and a 16 tooth gear on the rear hub. This is crucial for high speed cycling (33 – 40 mph) no more worrying about getting a high speed wobble because the rear wheel is slightly off center. These tensioners allow you to get the proper chain tension and precisely align your rear wheel straight. The tension nut is a lock nut so no worry about it coming loose. The shaft, nut and small washer are stainless steel. The tensioners come with hardened nuts and washers, very strong, the nut for adjusting tension is a 10mm. I have broken 2 axles in the past 7 years tightening the rear wheel in this maner, now that I have found this product, I can, with full confidence say that I will never break another axle. I no longer have to tighten one side of the axle and then pull the other side tight while trying to torque down the nut. This product completely takes all the pressure off the rear axle. I build cars and design 3D cad files for a living, and these are very well machined. Wow! These chain tensioners are hands down great quality! I can not believe I went this long with out this product.

I just finished installing this product on my Langster London edition Specialized bike.
